Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This limited-edition Ardbeg celebrates the distillery’s 200th anniversary, and as Dr. Bill Lumsden described it, uses elements of many of the limited edition Ardbegs released over the last several years. Note that there are two slightly different versions of Perpetuum: the Ardbeg Committee release also available at the distillery and bottled at 49.2% ABV, and the retail release at 47.4% ABV.
The nose has that classic Ardbeg peatiness that can be smelled from across the room, along with notes of heather, honey, a subtle touch of brown sugar, fig cookies, and a hint of maltiness. The taste is thick and smoky with grilled fruits, a nice ashiness that’s balanced by honey, brown sugar, a touch of figs, and a hint of chocolate mint in the background. The finish is long, smoky, and mouth-watering. (May, 2015)
