Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This single malt from Seattle’s Westland Distillery has a complex story: six different types of malted barley and four different types of casks (including Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez casks), all coming together with just 26 months of maturation to produce a very interesting whisky.
The nose has notes of vanilla cake batter, maple oatmeal cereal, and hints of banana, coconut, oak, and toffee. The taste starts off with citrus notes of mango, grapefruit, and a hint of pineapple, along with a touch of maltiness, crystallized ginger, and a hint of oatmeal cereal coming out as the citrus notes start to fade. The finish has a nice touch of crystallized ginger, oatmeal cereal and malt notes, and a touch of orange oils. The overall balance is nice and complex. (February, 2015)
