The nose has the classic Karuizawa/sherry cask notes of figs, toffee, caramel, honey, touches of nougat and marzipan, mild spicy hints of cumin, ginger, and nutmeg, along with cedar and a touch of maltiness. The taste starts off creamy and smooth, then turns white-hot with white pepper, chili and curry powders. The spices fade slowly to a dry, astringent mouthfeel, but one which doesn’t hide sweeter notes of honey, vanilla, coconut, and banana along with touches of ginger, cedar, and malt. The dry finish moves in and takes up residence in your mouth with notes consistent with the taste and seems like it could last forever. An amazing whisky! (October, 2014)
