Ballechin is the name for the peated malts from Edradour Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and this is one of the first whiskies from the distillery to be produced entirely from whisky distilled under Signatory’s ownership. It is matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks.
The nose has a good balance of peat and oak, along with a hint of cedar, fresh berries, coconut, vanilla, and banana notes. The taste is spicy and softly peated with a good balance of cinnamon, smoke, honey, coconut, vanilla, and banana notes. The finish is long and smooth with a good balance of smokiness, oak, honey, brown sugar, and a slight ashiness. Outstanding! (October, 2014)
