Blackadder Amrut Peated Cask

This is one of the rare independent bottlings of Amrut, and what makes it even more unusual is that after maturing in the heat of Bangalore, the cask was moved to Scotland for a final period of maturation under Blackadder’s supervision. The result may be one of the smokiest whiskies I’ve ever tried.

The nose has a strong peatiness with creosote and tar notes, but also shows hints of honey, vanilla, and dark chocolate underneath for a good balance. The taste is smoky with intense peat, curry powder, black pepper, and cardamom spices, along with honey and vanilla touches that develop as the spices fade. The finish has a lingering smokiness with an ashy mouthfeel and touches of dark chocolate and licorice. (May, 2014)
